The Modern Nomad Needs Your Voice
The Modern Nomad – a plan for the future of Gypsy and Traveller accommodation – is calling for members of the communities to give their opinions on its proposals.
Launched at the MfC Network Day in January 2023, the project is an attempt to “set out a better vision for culturally-appropriate accommodation strategies and to engage with local authorities across the UK,” according to Irish Traveller architect Darren Ward.
“It’s a vehicle for the communities to take back control.”
After two and a half years of workshops, questionnaires and discussion, the proposal has now been published for all to view on the Resources section of the MfC Website.
“The process has been really interesting, getting different opinions from community members,” Darren continues, “It’s been insightful and informative and I’m hopeful it can be taken on board in a positive manner. It’s the start of something quite important to everyone involved.”
But it’s not the end of the process.
The proposal has been published so all members of the communities can give their responses by email, Whatsapp or through filling out the comments sheet on the webpage.
“Any feedback is good feedback,” says Darren. “The more the communities put in, the more we get back. It’s about a grand vision – it’s not about one person’s voice.”
