Moving for Change statement on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill

Yesterday on April 28, the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill received Royal Assent. This means stopping without consent, with plans to stay the night, will now become a criminal offence.

Due to a lack of safe and legal places to stop, Gypsy and Traveller people will be forced into ‘crime’ for having nowhere else to go.

Moving for Change was set up two years ago to improve the quality of life for nomadic Gypsies and Travellers across the UK.

Gypsy and Traveller activists and allies, our friends, families and colleagues, have worked hard over the past couple of years to stop these plans from ever becoming law.

We at Moving for Change are proud to be part of the sector that has produced incredible work to try and stop the Bill.

We come out of this fight stronger and more united.

We will continue to work for the rights and well-being of those living roadside in the face of this cruel new law in the coming years.

We stand in solidarity with all Gypsy, Roma, Traveller and nomadic people.

MOVING FOR CHANGE

Moving for Change brings together the key players working to improve the quality of life for nomadic Gypsies and Travellers and the communities in which they live across the UK.
