Craft packages for roadside Gypsy and Traveller children and young people during lockdown
Organisation: TravellerSpace
Location: Penzance, England
Gypsies and Travellers in roadside communities in Cornwall and Devon were contacted by TravellerSpace to find out what would be the most useful thing that could be provided to alleviate some of the difficulties experienced during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Overwhelmingly, the response TravellerSpace heard was focused on activities for young people. Therefore, TravellerSpace put together age-appropriate packs of craft activities, along with open-ended resources including beads, coloured paper, card and glue.
As part of this, TravellerSpace shared a short survey, to find out how people are coping and what issues they are experiencing, how the relevant local authority is dealing with them, and what further help would be of use, to contribute to the wider snapshot of what is happening at a national level. The information gathered was collated and reported back to Moving for Change.
IMPACT OF THE PROJECT
I wanted to send our thank you to you all at Travellerspace and Moving for Change for the wonderful packs that you delivered for our children. They have really enjoyed making the projects. A really nice range of crafts!
